Stage 3 &4 Project Scope

Yarra Valley Water has endeavoured to upgrade its infrastructure in Melbourne’s North. Part of this upgrade was the construction of the Preston Branch Sewer Augmentation works. The project consisted of the installation of 1km of 675mm GRP pipe through various established and non established areas. Works incorporated trench works, tunnelling and boring at depths of up to 11m in residential streets, a golf course and parkland and the abandonment of existing sewers. There was also a connection to Melbourne Water’s Merri Creek Relieving Sewer by way of a new 2100mm diameter manhole.

Sewer Diversion Project Scope

The suburb of Preston is located approximately 9 kilometres north of the Melbourne CBD within the City of Darebin. The hydraulic load on the existing Preston Diversion Sewer (PRD) during wet weather events results in surcharging and spills. The Preston Diversion Sewer Augmentation project, including all three stages, aims to eliminate spills and decrease surcharging within the PRD. The project is divided into three stages. In total, the work comprises of two cross connections and approximately 1.5 km of diversion sewer ranging in size from DN550 to DN225 in residential and commercial streets using a combination of trenchless and open cut construction up to 6m in depth. The scope included sleeve bores for two rail crossings and a major VicRoads road.
